The Brost Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Essen, was founded in 2011 in accordance with the testamentary wishes of Anneliese Brost.
In accordance with her wishes, the Brost Foundation today supports projects focusing on the arts and culture, youth and senior services, public and vocational education, public health and healthcare, social welfare, and charitable causes. The focus is on the Ruhr region, the home of Anneliese Brost, whose identity the foundation aims to strengthen.
The foundation’s goal is to support community cooperation and proactive self-help in the Ruhr region through collaboration. By funding knowledge-based, well-conceived, and forward-looking projects, the foundation aims to achieve an impact that extends beyond the Ruhr region.

Your Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the project funding division, including the technical, strategic, and disciplinary leadership of the team
  • Close operational collaboration with the Executive Board in steering, implementing, and further developing the foundation’s activities, as well as in preparing and following up on strategic and operational decisions
  • Preparation of decision-making documentation, Executive Board presentations, resolutions, and committee meetings at the highest professional level
  • Strategic development and management of the grant portfolio, as well as responsibility for the design, quality assurance, and impact-oriented implementation of grant-funded and in-house projects
  • Responsibility for budget planning, resource management, risk management, and the continuous monitoring of project and grant activities
  • Representing the foundation in dealings with grant partners, institutions, political decision-makers, the academic community, the cultural sector, and civil society, as well as actively maintaining and developing strategic networks
  • Further development of digital processes, controlling tools, and impact analyses in the area of project funding
  • Regular participation in evening and networking events, as well as willingness to travel for work

Your Qualifications

  • A successfully completed academic degree (Master’s, Magister, Diplom (University), or equivalent) in a relevant field
  • Several years of verifiable leadership experience, as well as experience in managing complex organizational and change processes—including personnel development, performance reviews, goal-setting, performance evaluations, and personnel decisions—are mandatory.
  • Several years of professional experience in a leadership position within a foundation, a nonprofit organization, a public institution, or a similarly complex environment
  • Experience working closely with executive boards or governing bodies, particularly in preparing decision-making documents, participating in committee work, and communicating with stakeholders
  • Excellent strategic, conceptual, organizational, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to present complex issues in a manner tailored to the audience
  • A confident demeanor, diplomatic skills, and strong communication abilities, even in challenging situations
  • Strong commitment to nonprofit missions and a deep understanding of social, political, and cultural contexts
  • An independent, proactive, and solution-oriented approach to work, with strong execution skills and the ability to manage multiple complex projects and decision-making processes simultaneously; a high degree of discretion, loyalty, and reliability
  • Willingness to perform representative duties and to participate in events outside of regular working hours
  • Knowledge of regional structures and networks in the Ruhr region is a plus
